LYFT Africa International Youth Day Symposium

On Friday, August 12, 2022, at least 57 young leaders from five counties in Liberia gathered at American Corner-Kakata in Margibi to commemorate the International Youth Day Symposium. The Symposium is an event organized by Leading Youths to Foster Transformation in Africa (LYFT Africa) in commemoration of International Youth Day which was tagged “Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages”.   The day-long Symposium held in partnership with the Ministry of Youths and Sports in Liberia brought together participants from five of Liberia’s 15 counties including Montserrado, Margibi, Nimba, Grand Bassa, and Bong.  During the event, Pep Talks were delivered by vibrant young people from Liberia and Albania.  Mr. Charles G. Gender Ministry impressed by LYFT Africa’s “Day of the African Child” Event

  On June 16, 2022 at about 10:00 AM, the square of American Corner-Kakata was already a hive of activity . Dozens of children, activists and stakeholders who gathered to witness an eye-catching event organized by Leading Youths to Foster Transformation in Africa (LYFT Africa) held under the theme: “Eliminate Harmful Practices Affecting Children: Progress on Policy & Practice since 2013”.   Approximately 90 participants observed impressive performances from children who came from different schools in Paynesville and Kakata including the ASECA School System, Moses N. Ndorbor Memorial School of Excellence, Francis Mitchell Memorial Academy, St. Augustine Episcopal Mission High School, St. Christopher Catholic High School all of Kakata and SWEEP Solid Foundation School in Paynesville. How LYFT Africa is collaborating to fighting substance and drug abuse in Liberia

Monrovia - May 1, 2022  Substance and drug abuse in Liberia is a major contributing factor to the destruction of many children, young men and women. Eventually, this is leading to an increase in criminal activities because these youth who are mostly unemployed, are engaged in criminal activities to support their hobbies. The trigger down effect is on the guilt-free population that suffers the most from varying unlawful acts exhibited by substance abusers including the smashing of personal belongings, scams, theft, etc. According to the Liberian Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA), there are approximately 355 ghettos in Montserrado County alone. Of the 355, 88 new ghettos were added in 2022. It is recorded that 60% of the ghettos are permanent and 40% are make-shifts. From observation, there is an increase in the number of ghettos during the dry season because most drug-addicted people use wetlands to establish temporary ghettos. 72nd Public School’s Students Get Back-to-School Donation

  72 nd Public School’s Students Get Back-to-School Donation Monrovia – Approximately 100 students at the 72 nd Public School have benefitted from Leading Youths to Foster Transformation in Africa’s (LYFT-Africa) back-to-school donation that it is presently carrying on. According to LYFT, because the COVID-19, which has severely affected the economies of many developing nations, including Liberia, it is buttressing the Liberian government’s efforts to support education. On Tuesday, November 9, students at the 72 nd Public School in Paynesville were seen in a jubilant mood receiving back-to-school donations from LYFT Africa, a youth organization in their community. Volunteers of the organization were warmly welcomed by students, administrators, and teachers. COVID-19 AWARENESS

It is obvious that COVID-19 have had a trigger-down effect on the activities of not only LYFT Africa but the entire world.  As we stay safe by following preventive measures instituted by the World Health Organization, the Ministry of Health-Liberia and her partners, it is our hope that this will soon be over.  We are calling on every young person in and out of Liberia to follow preventive measures and stay safe. To date, Liberia has recorded 6 cases in two counties - Montserrado and Margibi. LYFT Africa 2nd Anniversary and Fund Raising Event

As the curtains of 2019 closes, we sit at our counting table and retrospect on our programs held during the year 2019. Among them was the most influential career day development program for senior secondary students in Kakata City, Margibi County, Liberia.  In observance of the history and founding of LYFT Africa, the organization will celebrate her second anniversary and fund raising event on February 28, 2020 under the theme: “Taking initiative to Transform Liberia through Youth Development and Capacity Building.” The event will begin at 10:00am with with an indoor program to be held at American Corner-Kakata, BWI campus in Kakata City, Margibi County, Liberia. Delivering the keynote address is Mr. Charles D. Gull, Managing Director of the Port of Buchanan in Liberia – one of Liberia’s youngest serving managers. LYFT Africa 1st Anniversary and Official Launch

Last year, LYFT Africa was able to establish school clubs in six secondary schools in Paynesville City which helpd youths to identify and develop their talents and realize their full potentials. On the 16th of June, 2018, LYFT Africa organized the “International Day of the African Child” that brought together approximately 100 children from over 20 schools within the city of Paynesville. The organization also conducted an awareness in secondary schools about the danger of drugs on June 26, 2018 which marked the International Day Against Drugs Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. United Nations Day 2018

The United Nations officially came into existence on 24 October 1945, when the Charter had been ratified by China, France, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, the United States and by a majority of other signatories.  United Nations Day  is celebrated on 24 October each year. On October 24, 2018, four youth groups saw the need to create awareness about the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations; namely LYFT Africa, YARD-Liberia, Kids Development Initiative I-YOCA including participants of the YALI RLC Online Cohort 9 participants. The day brought together over 123 participants including heads of organizations, principals of schools, students and other actors. Thanks to the County Education Officer of Margibi County Mr. Andrew Jlay and the Academic Dean of the Kakata Rural Teachers Training Institute Ms. Sorna F. Sherif for lecturing secondary students in Kakata.  We appreciate our career coaches too: Mr.  Mallay Kekula , Ms.  Victoria Jones , Mr.  Beyan Abraham Sirleaf , Madam Daisay Fahnbulleh, MissYama Tokpah, and Mr. Eric Tokpah. Career Day often refers to a day in school where students learn about different careers, why to choose a career, how to develop their career and what career are applicable to their locations. Unfortunately, in Liberia, almost every school have not seen the significant of a career day and most institutions including secondary and tertiaries institutions in Liberia don’t usually host a career day event. Recognizing the significance of a career day event, LYFT Africa on Thursday, 27th September 2018, Held its Career Day Development Program. The event gathered over 75 senior secondary students from different schools within Montserrado, Margibi and Bomi Counties in Liberia. The purpose of the occasion was to provide career guidance for senior secondary students and network them with other students from across Liberia. Celebration of the International Youth Day Symposium

The International Youth Day Symposium 2018 (IYDS2018) was celebrated under the theme "Save Spaces for Youth" The event brought together close to fifty (50) young leaders from different organizations across Liberia. Speakers gracing the occasion were the Honorable Minister of Youth & Sports, Mr. Dester Zeogar Wilson; the CEO of Continental Website Technology School System Mr. Richard D. Jah; and the president of the YALI Alumni Chapter Liberia, Miss. Sallay H. Gaye. The all-day event climaxed with preparation and presentation of papers on the topic: "what is the best medium through which youths can contribute to National Development." Winning teams were presented cash prizes. Sallay H. Gay, YALI Alumni-Liberia chapter served as one of the guest lecturers at IYDS 2018.
