Secondary Career Day Program (American Corner-Kakata) 2019 ===================================================================== LAST YEAR IT WAS GREAT but THIS YEAR WAS GREATER. On Friday, October 11, 2019, LYFT Africa held its second edition of her Career coaching and counselling program at the American Corner-Kakata. Seven school were in attendance and approximately 87 participants were present. The event was graced by two powerful Instructors: Dr. John Sulonteh Smith, Lecturer at the University of Liberia spoke to participants about 'Identifying the Right Career' while Madam Sonah F. Sherif, Academic Dean of the Kakata Rural Teachers Training Institute spoke to participants about 'Developing the Right Career'. Last year, LYFT Africa was able to establish school clubs in six secondary schools in Paynesville City which helpd youths to identify and develop their talents and realize their full potentials. On the 16th of June, 2018, LYFT Africa organized the “International Day of the African Child” that brought together approximately 100 children from over 20 schools within the city of Paynesville. The organization also conducted an awareness in secondary schools about the danger of drugs on June 26, 2018 which marked the International Day Against Drugs Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. On August 11, 2018, LYFT Africa held the International Youth Day Symposium in partnership with the Ministry of Youths and Sports and on the 27th of September, 2018, the organization partnered with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to host a career day development program for senior secondary students in Paynesville City, Montserrado County and Kakata City in Margibi County. The United Nations officially came into existence on 24 October 1945, when the Charter had been ratified by China, France, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, the United States and by a majority of other signatories.  United Nations Day  is celebrated on 24 October each year. On October 24, 2018, four youth groups saw the need to create awareness about the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations; namely LYFT Africa, YARD-Liberia, Kids Development Initiative I-YOCA including participants of the YALI RLC Online Cohort 9 participants. The day brought together over 123 participants including heads of organizations, principals of schools, students and other actors. Thanks to the County Education Officer of Margibi County Mr. Andrew Jlay and the Academic Dean of the Kakata Rural Teachers Training Institute Ms. Sorna F. Career Day often refers to a day in school where students learn about different careers, why to choose a career, how to develop their career and what career are applicable to their locations. Unfortunately, in Liberia, almost every school have not seen the significant of a career day and most institutions including secondary and tertiaries institutions in Liberia don’t usually host a career day event. Recognizing the significance of a career day event, LYFT Africa on Thursday, 27th September 2018, Held its Career Day Development Program. The event gathered over 75 senior secondary students from different schools within Montserrado, Margibi and Bomi Counties in Liberia. The purpose of the occasion was to provide career guidance for senior secondary students and network them with other students from across Liberia. February 28, 2018 As part of her Schools Club initiative, LYFT African conducted a Health Club Workshop for six (6) schools within the City of Paynesville. The International Youth Day Symposium 2018 (IYDS2018) was celebrated under the theme "Save Spaces for Youth" The event brought together close to fifty (50) young leaders from different organizations across Liberia. Speakers gracing the occasion were the Honorable Minister of Youth & Sports, Mr. Dester Zeogar Wilson; the CEO of Continental Website Technology School System Mr. Richard D. Jah; and the president of the YALI Alumni Chapter Liberia, Miss. Sallay H. Gaye. The all-day event climaxed with preparation and presentation of papers on the topic: "what is the best medium through which youths can contribute to National Development."
